The Four Waterfalls Walk in the Brecon Beacons

Nestled in the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog in Wales- the new name for the Brecon Beacons National Park – lies a hidden gem of natural beauty – the Four Waterfalls Walk. Around a 20 minute drive from us at Nant Ddu Lodge Hotel & Spa, this enchanting trail takes you on a journey through lush forests, along cascading rivers, and past not one, but four breathtaking waterfalls. If you are a nature enthusiast or simply seeking a tranquil escape, this hike is an absolute must when staying with us.

The adventure begins at the picturesque village of Ystradfellte, where you will find a well-marked trailhead leading you into the lush woodlands. The first waterfall you’ll encounter is Sgwd Clun-Gwyn, a graceful 30-foot cascade that sets the tone for the rest of the hike. As you approach, the sound of rushing water grows louder, and you’ll be captivated by the glistening veil of water shimmering in the dappled sunlight.

Continuing along the path, you will soon reach Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn, a twin waterfall that plunges into a serene pool below. This is a perfect spot to pause for a moment, take in the tranquil surroundings, and, wether permitting, perhaps dip your toes in the cool, crystal-clear waters.

The trail then leads you to the showstopper – Sgwd y Pannwr, also known as the “Fall of the Fuller.” This mesmerising waterfall cascades dramatically into a deep, emerald pool, surrounded by moss-covered rocks and vibrant green foliage. It’s a sight that will leave you in awe and provide an excellent photo opportunity.

Finally, the trail brings you to Sgwd yr Eira, the most iconic of them all. What sets this waterfall apart is the unique opportunity to walk behind the curtain of falling water. You will feel the mist on your skin and hear the thunderous roar as you venture through the rocky passage behind the falls, creating an unforgettable experience.

The Four Waterfalls Walk is approximately 5 miles long, and while it’s not particularly strenuous, the uneven terrain and occasional steep sections may require sturdy footwear. Remember to check the weather before embarking on your journey and bring appropriate clothing and provisions.

This enchanting hike through the Brecon Beacons is a true immersion in the natural beauty of Wales. The Four Waterfalls Walk offers a captivating mix of stunning scenery, serene forests, and the hypnotic power of cascading waterfalls, making it a must-do adventure for anyone seeking a unique and unforgettable outdoor experience. So, lace up your hiking boots and prepare to be enchanted by the magic of the Brecon Beacons’ hidden waterfalls.
